About

Born in 1975 and studied at the Marangoni Institute of Milan, Lucio Vanotti is an anti-romantic fashion designer. His way to conceive fashion is rational, essential and leads to avoid everything that’s superfluous. The design process is clear, fast and efficient, as if it was ruled by a mathematical formula and aims to achieve a perfect simplicity. And Lucio is getting his results. After becoming one of the finalists at “Who’s on next?” during Pitti Immagine Uomo (June 2012, Florence) and having worked for the independent label February, he decided to prosecute that experience by starting a solo project. He had then launched his own brand, Lucio Vanotti, designing and producing both the male and the female lines in Italy. His variables work are sign, matter and surface and he uses purism and concision as instruments to intervene on the garments. By reducing every single item of clothing to the necessary and removing the meaningless, the designer comes to a basic form that is precise and complete with everything that has been edited away. The collections tend to reach a point of abstraction, an extreme concept translated in pureness and absolute geometries that encompass the body. Getting rid of ornamentations, Lucio Vanotti fuses beauty and utility; what’s left is what really matters like the grain of the fabric and the seams that define the structure of each item. Dry forms and delicate shapes are going to make you stand simply beautiful in Lucio Vanotti.
