Anrealage Spring Summer 2024 Fashion Show

Kunihiko Morinaga continued to captivate the fashion world with his innovative use of photochromatic technology in his mesmerizing spring collection. Morinaga, who recently patented the technology under the name "Anvisual," pushed the boundaries of fashion once again.

Titled "Invisible," this season's collection was far from inconspicuous. It revolved around an array of transparent PVC shapes that initially appeared crystalline, adorned with vividly hued or white seam details made from denim, crochet, or cotton. Beneath these transparent layers, each model wore an identical white bodysuit crafted from Fair Trade cotton.

As the models stepped into the spotlight under ultraviolet lights, the magic of Morinaga's design unfolded. Just as in the previous season, the colors shifted dramatically. The bodysuits, akin to a chameleon's skin, transformed with vibrant monogram patterns. The transparency of the PVC gave way to a mesmerizing display of rainbow hues, ranging from the boldest to the most subdued shades.

Morinaga's deceptive collection featured a wide range of silhouettes, from timeless staples like trenchcoats, jeans, and loafers to inflatable shapes that seemed plucked from a science fiction film. The graphic hems, when arranged in straight lines, offered new interpretations reminiscent of the revolutionary silhouettes of the Swinging '60s, their colors shifting in tune with the light. Sharp triangles in various hues, themselves affected by changing light, resembled Space Age stained-glass windows, as if from a cathedral on an otherworldly planet.

Undoubtedly, Morinaga is a master at pushing the boundaries of fashion experimentation. While many pieces in this collection defy conventional wearability, the Japanese designer is effectively bringing technology out of the digital realm and onto the runway in tangible clothing that defies easy categorization. Nevertheless, there were one or two pieces, such as the sleeveless trench, that could clearly find a place on the streets of everyday fashion.
