The ArdAzAei Fall Winter 2023-2024 Haute Couture fashion show marked the emergence of Bahareh Ardakani, the founder and creative director of the brand, as a rising star in the fashion industry. With notable personalities like Lisa Rinna and Fan Bingbing in the front row, Ardakani's sculptural designs captured the attention of both the fashion elite and celebrity admirers. Titled "The Diffraction of Light," the collection showcased Ardakani's exploration of gemology and her metaphorical interpretation of the invisible mechanics that illuminate the world of couture.
Central to Ardakani's designs was the emphasis on construction, even when playful elements such as oversized bows and ruffles made an appearance. The collection's strongest looks emerged when structure took center stage, be it through sharp tailoring or the intricate interplay of pleating and embroidery. The opening look set the tone with its high neckline, strong shoulders, and draped straight skirt. Another standout piece featured a form-fitting dress with thin straps adorned with embroidered metal beads that resembled delicate chains. Ardakani's attention to detail was evident in a slim suit crafted from silk, cotton, and Lurex jacquard, displaying a graphic pattern inspired by the atomic structure of beryls.
Ardakani's collaboration with folding artist Joan Sallas and the artisans of Atelier Lognon, a pleating specialist owned by Chanel, resulted in a breathtaking high-neck gown. Geometric pleating and metallic Lurex transformed the gown into a mesmerizing visual spectacle. The collaboration breathed life into the garment with each step the model took, demonstrating the fusion of artistry and movement.
While Ardakani's designs showcased scientific and textile engineering, she also remained committed to the poetic nature of fashion. The designer expressed her intention to pursue a slow and steady approach, focusing on both couture and sustainable ready-to-wear developments. In line with her sustainability goals, Ardakani revealed that a quarter of her fall designs met the criteria of the Global Organic Textile Standard, emphasizing her commitment to responsible fashion practices.
Above all, it was Ardakani's ability to weave poetry through fabric that captivated the audience. Her talent for transforming textiles into ethereal forms demonstrated her artistic vision and mastery of her craft. Each garment exuded a sense of artistry, blending creativity with technical excellence.
