Three years into his role at Courrèges, designer Nicolas Di Felice veered away from precision tailoring to present a Spring 2024 collection inspired by a desert road trip. Models confidently strutted in slouchy oversized sweatshirts, twisted shirtdresses, and T-shirts casually half-tucked into waistbands. The runway, resembling a white square covered in dried paint, crunched under the blade-like heels of the models. Di Felice's fascination with vast arid landscapes, inspired by his visit to Marfa, Texas, last summer, was evident in the show's set.
The collection exuded a tough yet cool aesthetic, featuring biker pants adorned with buckles down the sides, balanced by sensual necklines and circular midriff cutouts. Collarbones emerged as the season's newfound erogenous zone, with leather jackets designed to peel back and reveal this area.
Even Courrèges' signature tailoring received a softer touch. Bell-sleeved coats and bustier dresses boasted scalloped hems that gracefully grazed flared pants, offering thigh slits with diagonal zips that allowed wearers to reveal as much or as little as they desired.
Since Di Felice's arrival at the iconic Space Age label in 2020, Courrèges has experienced a resurgence, dressing celebrities like Dua Lipa, Rosalía, and Beyoncé, who donned a custom Courrèges ensemble for the opening date of her Renaissance World Tour. Amid all this, Di Felice has remained steadfast in his commitment to producing exceptional clothing.
In his own words, "In fashion, we talk about everything, but we sometimes forget to talk about clothes. I can assure you that as far as I’m concerned, that’s my craft. It’s what I love, what I studied for, and what I’m good at." This dedication shone through in the collection, which was tightly curated and sure to leave retailers delighted.
