Falguni Shane Peacock Spring Summer 2024 Fashion Show

After nearly a decade's absence from New York Fashion Week, the Indian design duo Falguni and Shane Peacock made a striking return this season, and they brought a surprising collaborator with them - image architect Law Roach. This show also marked somewhat of a comeback for Roach, known for creating iconic fashion moments with his star client Zendaya. He had been selective about new creative ventures, having not directed a collection since his one-off collaboration with Hervé Lèger in June. However, the opportunity to collaborate with the Peacocks proved too enticing to resist. Roach had previously borrowed pieces from their collection for styling purposes and felt that fate had brought them together.

The Peacock brand is renowned for opulence and intricate beading, hallmarks of Indian fashion. Roach aimed to infuse a blend of cultures, envisioning a fusion of Mumbai and New York. He explained, "What I brought to it is this clash of cultures. What does it look like if Mumbai meets New York dead in the middle?" On the runway, this fusion materialized as cool couture with a streetwise sensibility. Gray cashmere sweatshirts and joggers made unconventional pairings with crystal-studded peaked lapel blazers and sequined basketball shorts, making them suitable for everyday wear. Athleisure influences, such as cutout bra tops, varsity stripes, baseball caps, and shredded denim accents, injected a fresh and cool vibe into traditional evening attire.

Notably absent were homages to traditional Indian costume, except for the opening look - a white shirt draped over the shoulder like a sari. Nevertheless, the Peacocks were enthusiastic about the opportunity to shine a spotlight on craftsmen from their native country. Falguni expressed, "It's a very proud moment for us to be back showing on an international platform." Their return to New York Fashion Week brought a refreshing fusion of cultures and styles, showcasing the brand's opulence and creativity on a global stage.
