Mossi Traoré's Spring Summer 2024 collection was a celebration of couture craftsmanship and an exploration of the intersection between couture and urban fashion. Traoré drew inspiration from the legacy of French couturier Madame Grès and Korean artist Lee Bul, seeking to blend the elegance of couture with contemporary urban sensibilities.
The collection showcased Traoré's architectural approach to fashion, featuring garments with asymmetric volumes, fluid draping, graceful folds, and sharp pleats. These design elements paid homage to the couture traditions of Madame Grès and Issey Miyake. Additionally, Traoré drew inspiration from Indian fashion silhouettes, influenced by his own multicultural heritage as a person of Malian and French descent.
The color palette of the collection predominantly revolved around black and white, with vibrant saffron and eggplant accents. The fabrics used included dyed Japanese denim, adding depth and texture to the designs.
The collection emphasized a fusion of silhouettes, often combining flared shapes with more formfitting styles. Examples included an asymmetric white shirt with a trapeze swing paired with a layered gray skirt that draped closer to the body. Another look featured a sleeveless black top adorned with cascading tucks and folds, balanced by wide blue denim jeans.
Notably, Traoré's collection did not incorporate elements of streetwear. Instead, it remained firmly rooted in sartorial elegance, bridging the gap between traditional couture and contemporary fashion, bringing the essence of couture into the present day.
