Peter Do Spring Summer 2024 collection fashion show at Paris Fashion Week SS24 (September 26, 2023).

Peter Do, the New York-based designer who began his career at Celine under Phoebe Philo, made his debut at Paris Fashion Week with a collection that focused purely on the clothes themselves. In an era where fashion often leans more towards entertainment than design, Do decided to return to the fundamentals of clothing design.

His coed collection, featuring 40 looks, aimed to streamline and pare down the fashion offerings. It included pieces from his upcoming Banana Republic capsule collection, providing a preview of his collaboration with the brand. Notable pieces from the collection included a deconstructed black trenchcoat and a ribbed black turtleneck with detachable sleeves, both from the Banana Republic collaboration.

Do's collection focused on tailored looks in a palette of neutrals with occasional pops of lipstick red. He played with tailoring, often splicing suit jackets at the midriff with a band of creased lining fabric or layering them over other garments like white shirtdresses and ribbed knits.

The collection aimed to offer covetable wardrobe essentials with a cerebral take on office dressing, featuring pieces like a beige trenchcoat, ivory bonded satin pants, and a monochrome colorblock pleated leather skirt. While some of Do's attempts to reinvent basics felt slightly forced, the overall focus on the actual garments stood out as a refreshing departure from the spectacle often seen at Paris shows.

Do deliberately avoided gimmicks, pop stars, elaborate sets, or dramatic lighting for this collection, choosing instead to let the clothes speak for themselves and highlight their design and craftsmanship. It marked a return to the essence of fashion and clothing design for the rising star in the industry.
