Rahul Mishra Spring Summer 2024 Fashion Show

Rahul Mishra Spring Summer 2024 RTW collection fashion show at Paris Fashion Week SS24 (September 28, 2023).

For the debut of his new line named AFEW (Air, Fire, Earth, Water), created in collaboration with Reliance Brands, Rahul Mishra unveiled an extraordinary experience rather than a conventional fashion show or presentation. The event took place in the spacious upper area of the Palais de Tokyo, where dancers added an enchanting dimension to the proceedings.

Rahul Mishra, known for his couture label, which is on the cusp of becoming India's first indigenous billion-dollar brand, embarked on a mission to infuse everyday essentials with a touch of opulence. His goal was to transform common wardrobe items like T-shirts into wearable art, all while ensuring they remained durable and could withstand the rigors of regular washing.

In this collection, instead of the intricate embellishments that typically require thousands of hours of painstaking craftsmanship, Mishra turned to a more accessible approach. Some pieces in the collection necessitated a mere 50 or 100 hours of work. Among the highlights were shirts adorned with familiar patterns, such as stylized waves or tiered fish scales. Sequins, ombré effects, and oversized frond appliqués added a layer of elegance and whimsy. Notably, some T-shirts were entirely covered in sequins, each showcasing a vibrant, dreamlike landscape reminiscent of past seasons.

The collection also featured a range of tulle bombers, cleverly latticed, pleated, and appliquéd, designed to be gender-inclusive. Furthermore, in keeping with the times, certain pieces were accompanied by matching sequined masks.

Mishra's vision transcends fashion; it's about more than creating stunning garments. He's dedicated to fostering a sense of inclusivity and providing opportunities for emerging talents, including embroiderers and tailors, many of whom are women. This approach not only strengthens brand recognition but also lays the foundation for future artisans to ascend to the couture level.

Beyond the fashion realm, Rahul Mishra is expanding into new territories, exploring jewelry, shoes, and even traditional "snake charmer" bags woven from grass. This diversification allows him to cater to a broader audience and liberates him from the constraints of traditional couture.

As India emerges as a captivating frontier for luxury, major players in the industry are closely watching developments. This dynamic landscape may usher in fresh changes by the time the next Paris Fashion Week arrives.
