In a harmonious fusion of divine inspiration and artistic innovation, the Roksanda Spring Summer 2024 fashion show unveiled a collection that exuded opulence and tranquility. The origins of this enchanting collection were surprising; it was conceived amidst the hallowed walls of a monastery. Roksanda Ilincic, the visionary designer, drew upon the rich tapestry of her native Serbia, finding muse in the intricate vestments of priests, the ethereal frescoes, and the contemplative serenity that envelops sacred spaces.
Under the late summer sun, the Barbican's courtyard provided the perfect backdrop for the presentation, complemented by the ethereal melodies of British soprano Isabelle Peters, adding an extra layer of calm and communion to the show. As always, color and volume took center stage. Roksanda, an ardent art enthusiast, artfully dipped her sartorial brush into a palette of vibrant hues, gracing boxy jackets and flowing dresses with striking highlights of green and orange, and draping a silk backless gown and tailored suits in a mesmerizing shade of rose-tinged champagne.
Gold threads borrowed from the vestments of Orthodox priests were meticulously transformed into delicate strands, which elegantly coiled around the back of flowing silk dresses in champagne and raspberry pink. Short, silvery skirts, reminiscent of glistening fringe, paid homage to the monastic metallic threads. Frescoes served as the wellspring of inspiration for patterns, textures, and prints, resulting in bold brushstrokes adorning suits and abstract white dots gracing a green silk ensemble. However, one cannot overlook the gentle, sinuous female figure adorning a dress—a testament to Roksanda's imaginative prowess.
