Sacai Resort 2025 Fashion Show

Sacai's Resort 2025 women's collection and Spring Summer 2025 men's collection took inspiration from both a rebellious icon and a classic American style era.

The show opened with a James Dean T-shirt, a nod to the actor's brooding persona. But designer Chitose Abe wasn't just drawn to his looks. Backstage, she revealed a deeper connection to a quote attributed to Dean: "I think the prime reason for existence, for living in this world, is discovery." This resonated with Abe's own creative journey, a constant exploration of fashion.

Abe deconstructed and reimagined classic 1950s American pieces. The oversized Harrington jacket and chinos, reminiscent of Dean's attire in Rebel Without a Cause, were given the signature Sacai treatment – a looser fit and playful details. Deep pockets on pants created a familiar yet refreshing silhouette.

Denim received a major refresh. Levi's jean jackets were transformed into eye-catching shapes for men, while for women, they were spliced with jeans to create a striking denim shirtdress and a statement jumpsuit.

A collaboration with Japanese streetwear brand WTAPS brought a touch of military influence. Architectural shoulders added a bold touch to women's field jackets, a theme that continued on leather perfectos and blazers. Fun prints, like a racing car design spotted on Pharrell Williams in the front row, added a touch of whimsy.

Models carrying stacks of books secured with straps – reminiscent of a bygone era where teenagers walked to school – added a nostalgic touch. This resonated with the ongoing trend of Ivy League-inspired fashion, a trend often driven by a desire for comfort and familiarity during uncertain times. However, Abe, an optimist at heart, wasn't necessarily dwelling on the past. When asked about her inspiration, she simply replied, "I just like James Dean's freedom."

This collection offered a unique blend of rebellion, classic Americana, and Abe's signature playful deconstruction.
