Sacai Spring Summer 2024 Fashion Show

"The more simple we are, the more complete we become." These words by French sculptor Auguste Rodin served as the guiding philosophy for Sacai's captivating Spring Summer 2024 collection. Designer Chitose Abe approached fashion as an art form, treating each silhouette as if it were a sculpture.

Abe's commitment to artistry was evident not just in the clothing but in the presentation itself. The venue, a parking garage where Sacai had previously showcased its fall collection, was transformed into an art gallery atmosphere, with gray felt covers adding a touch of Joseph Beuys-like mystique to the seating.

For Abe, this collection was a mission to breathe new life into the archetypes of garments. She sought purity by stripping down staples like MA-1 jackets, tuxedos, and classic shirting to their sculptural essence.

What made these silhouettes crisp and refreshing was their adherence to the original garments' functional integrity. Yet, they exuded an air of effortlessness, thanks to Abe's deft touch in transforming them. She zoomed in on the details of individual pieces, extracting sets from shirts, expanding trouser legs into skirts, and turning flight jackets into cocoon-like coats.

The color palette was minimal, drawing directly from the original garments, and devoid of any distracting motifs, except for Rodin's words adorning a few pieces. This approach allowed the sculptural qualities of the clothing to take center stage.

Throughout the collection, the impeccable construction shone brightly, especially in the organza versions that left no room for imperfections. Inside-out blazers with graphic precision, sans pockets and linings, exemplified the attention to detail that Sacai is known for.

This collection was quintessentially Sacai – straightforward yet intricate. In a season where simplicity was a dominant theme, Chitose Abe reminded us that simplicity need not equate to blandness. Sacai's Spring Summer 2024 collection is a testament to the designer's ability to elevate everyday garments to works of art, proving that fashion, like sculpture, can achieve completeness through simplicity.
