Designing duo Julie and Marie Skall orchestrated an experience that resonated with both serenity and style. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Royal Library, models gracefully weaved through the garden, showcasing a collection that effortlessly captured the essence of the season. The color palette exuded calming hues, mirroring the tranquil atmosphere and creating an aura of relaxation.
One of the standout elements of the collection was the use of crochet. Whether machine-made or crafted by hand, crochet was skillfully incorporated into a range of garments. From column dresses to skirts and cropped tops, the delicate artistry of crochet added an exquisite touch, giving each piece a unique texture and visual appeal. Notably, the collection featured adorable logo bags adorned with crochet detailing, seamlessly blending fashion with function.
The Skall sisters played with contrasts in this collection, introducing easy suiting in linen to counterbalance the softness of the crochet pieces. A linen pantsuit with cropped, yet comfortably wide-legged pants took center stage. The ensemble was elegantly accessorized with a head scarf and delicate espadrilles, exuding a blend of vacation vibes and urban chic.
While monochrome looks dominated a portion of the show, the Skall Studio's signature touch shone through. Edwardian-style garments with delicate pleats and lace insets added a nostalgic yet contemporary flair to the collection. This continuation of a theme from the previous season injected welcome variety, preventing the monochrome looks from becoming overly formulaic.
Although this collection may not have been the Skall sisters' most audacious endeavor, it was undoubtedly successful in evoking a mood. Julie and Marie Skall shared their intention to create an ambiance of tranquility, beauty, and intellect, and they achieved precisely that. The runway's soundtrack featured the recitation of "A Dream" by Lou Reed, along with a watchful statue of Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, creating a fusion of literature and fashion. The collection aimed to initiate a dialogue that transcended the confines of the library's red brick walls, and it succeeded in doing so, captivating both minimalists and romantics alike.
