Vivetta Spring Summer 2024 collection fashion show at Milano Fashion Week SS24 (September 22, 2023).
Vivetta Ponti is renowned for setting high standards, presenting original shows, like one featuring ice skaters modeling outfits on the rink, and collections brimming with eccentric, baroque details such as jeweled hands squeezing glittering nipples on shirts or denim jackets.
Since establishing her brand in 2009, Ponti has infused Milan's fashion scene with an air of the unexpected, blending whimsy, subversion, and references spanning history, pop culture, and art.
In the current season, whimsy took center stage in the form of polka dots—large and small, shiny, fuzzy, or flat—adorning a wide range of garments, from a feathery pink bubble coat to a curvy cocktail dress to a pair of kitten-heel boots.
Ponti's choice of dots was deliberate: "because they are very feminine, graphic—and common. I wanted to play with their shapes and mix them with feathers and embroidery," explained the designer, who sported a stylish '50s collegiate look at the show, donning a pleated burgundy skirt, an oversized blue-and-white striped shirt, and loafers with scrunched-down socks.
In addition to extending her dots to sheer tops, trousers, and draped Minnie Mouse dresses, Ponti injected bright crosshatch and floral patterns into youthful silhouettes such as A-line coats, trouser suits, and pencil skirts.
While the collection featured several quintessential Vivetta pieces, including black dresses and skirts adorned with plump white roses and vibrant green stems, bra tops with fully bloomed flowers, and the feathery, spotted bubble coat, it did not quite reach the same level of intrigue and excitement as her previous collections. Unfortunately, the dots did not quite align for this young Milanese talent.
