Yuima Nakazato Fall Winter 2023-24 Haute Couture Fashion Show

Yuima Nakazato presented a Fall Winter 2023-2024 Haute Couture collection that built upon the themes and discoveries of the previous season. Inspired by a research trip to Africa and his encounter with its textile waste, Nakazato crafted a moving and poetic collection titled "Magma." Through a carefully curated palette of black, white, and red, the designer explored the juxtaposition of emotions and danger. With a unique approach to fabric manipulation and a fusion of cultural references, Nakazato delivered powerful and ethereal silhouettes that captivated the audience.

Nakazato drew parallels between the traditional techniques used in kimono making and the robe-like garments of the African continent. Utilizing multitudinous rectangles of fabric, the designer draped and spliced them together, resulting in striking silhouettes that beautifully combined the influences of both cultures. Prints derived from photographs of spent textiles were stained red, imparting a new and transformative meaning to the motifs. Set against a backdrop of red light, the designs and the floor of the Palais de Tokyo venue evoked a dramatic and symbolic ambiance reminiscent of a natural landscape or a Hokusai painting.

The collection encompassed a wide range of silhouettes, showcasing Nakazato's versatility and creativity. Structured and innovative tailoring coexisted with voluminous layers of diaphanous draping, creating organic forms that seemed to come to life.
