Carolina Herrera's Fall Winter 2023-2024 collection was a celebration of romance and rigor, inspired by the historical drama 'The Empress' on Netflix. Designer Wes Gordon, who just welcomed his second child before the show, presented a confident collection that was full of sumptuous and opulent pieces.

The show opened with models entering from the stage like debutantes before descending stairs into the show space. It was a grand entrance that set the tone for the rest of the show. Gordon explained that he wanted to showcase the craftsmanship of the collection, with rich fabrics and layers of tulle. A stretch crepe jumpsuit with three sculpted roses down the front was one of the standouts, as was a cinched-waist satin organza overskirt that delivered major drama. The designer also played up monochromatic silhouettes, including a strapless gown with a beautifully draped tulip skirt and train.

Gordon then introduced some blocks of color to the collection, such as a sleeveless shell, straight skirt, and sash in citrine, pink, and red. The result was simply chic and refreshing, providing a pop of color in an otherwise mostly neutral collection. The showstopper looks of the collection were undoubtedly the topiary tulle gowns in black-and-white stripes and canary yellow. The voluminous layers of tulle and the bold stripes made for a spectacular display that was sure to light up social media. Another noteworthy piece was a winter white jacket and short skirt suit with jeweled embroidery, which added a touch of opulence to an otherwise simple silhouette.

The collection also featured several gowns made from a beautiful woven chine fabric of lilac and evergreen damask. From a traditional draped column dress with a shoulder sash worn by a curvier model to a sportier hooded anorak gown with a billowy skirt, the textile was used in a variety of ways that showed off its versatility.
