Coperni Fall Winter 2024-25 Fashion Show

Coperni Fall Winter 2024-2025 collection fashion show at Paris Fashion Week FW24 (March 4, 2024).

Coperni's Fall Winter 2024-2025 collection took fashion enthusiasts on an interstellar journey, blending elements of science fiction with avant-garde design in a mesmerizing space opera. Set against the backdrop of a far-flung Aubervillier TV soundstage, the runway was transformed into a surreal landscape where futuristic visions collided with cinematic nostalgia.

A towering black obelisk, reminiscent of a half-flipped Asterix or a scene from a Kubrick film, loomed over the audience, illuminated by the iconic soundtrack of John Williams's "The Conversation" from Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." Arnaud Vaillant, one half of Coperni's creative duo, confirmed backstage that the collection was indeed a tribute to sci-fi, with every detail meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of otherworldly wonder.

The runway showcased a myriad of innovative designs, from 'flying saucer' dresses with Mars Attacks-inspired skirts to cable knits sliced vertically to create a hypnotic hyperspace blur. Gold-layered silver foil space blanket dresses shimmered as they shed tiny scraps of space junk, while models strutted down the runway with hair styled as if slicked with Xenomorph slime, complete with articulated faux-talons mirroring Xenomorph manicures.

Faux fur coats and bags in earthly browns and beiges were juxtaposed with bursts of green and blue, reminiscent of alien blood. A nod to classic sci-fi films like "The Matrix" was evident in fitted tops and dresses patterned with poppers resembling futuristic battery packs. Micro handbags encased in Ziploc evidence bags added a touch of intrigue, evoking memories of Mulder's pursuit of the unexplained in "The X-Files."

A standout piece was the Swipe bag, crafted by professor Ioannis Michaloudis from a mix of 99 percent air and 1 percent silicon nano-material—a material used by NASA to catch stardust. While the technical details may have soared over the heads of many, the bag's sleek design captivated all.

Despite the distractions of orbiting cameramen and immersive visuals, the show culminated in two final dresses framed in feathered hoops, reminiscent of Star Trek's transporter aura. Coperni's mastery of technology and imagination was evident throughout, cementing its status as a trailblazer in the realm of futuristic fashion.
