Gabriela Hearst's Fall Winter 2025-2026 collection explored themes of female empowerment and historical matriarchal societies, drawing inspiration from archaeologist Marija Gimbutas's work.
Hearst's research into women's inequality led her to Gimbutas's "The Language of the Goddess," which explores ancient goddess-worshipping, Earth-oriented societies. The collection incorporated imagery from Gimbutas's book, using cave marking motifs as decoration.
These motifs, spray-painted on shearling and embroidered on a white dress, referenced depictions of female anatomy found in cave drawings dating back to 30,000 B.C.
Hearst continued her commitment to responsible design, showcasing sustainable practices. The opening look featured a silk coat resembling shearling or faux fur. Snakeskin was ethically sourced from invasive Burmese pythons in the Everglades through Inversa. Denim was made from 100% recycled cotton and dyed in vibrant shades. Vintage handbags were repurposed with new straps, promoting a sustainable approach to accessories.
The collection also featured innovative fabric manipulations, including leather woven to resemble snakeskin, used for a bustier top and midi skirt, and cashmere yarn knitted to mimic the same texture on a pullover jacket. The collection emphasized tactile experiences, highlighting the quality of the materials and craftsmanship.
