Staged in a 19th-century performing arts theater and opened and closed by his muse, top French drag performer La Grande Dame, the show was a spectacle from start to finish. A 55-strong brass orchestra provided live accompaniment, setting the stage for Germanier's riotous lineup of colors, sequins, shivering trims, and found beads. Even his knits received a craft-intensive update, thanks to the skillful hands of his 84-year-old grandmother and 87-year-old great-aunt, who collaborated to create the beaded iterations seen throughout the collection. Germanier's resourcefulness knows no bounds, as he turns spikes typically used in floral arrangements into fantastical elements adorning corseted dresses made of rhodoid plates assembled with metal rings.
