JW Anderson Spring Summer 2025 Menswear and Women's Resort 2025 collection fashion show (June 16, 2024).

Jonathan Anderson's latest collection for JW Anderson throws playful shapes and textures at the forefront of menswear.

The vibe? "Irrational clothing" perfectly captures the essence of the show. Imagine colorful, inflated air bags bouncing at the hems of T-shirts, neckties resembling table runners, and cardigans chunky enough to resemble brick houses. Accessorize with a belt sporting a rack for cashmere samples, just for good measure.

This is the world that unfolded on the JW Anderson runway in Milan. The atmosphere echoed the designer's pre-show description: a trippy, "spaced out" wonderland bathed in the soft glow of hundreds of suspended lightbulbs. Supersized shapes, bouncy textures, and a dash of humor defined the collection.

Anderson champions fashion as a platform for personal expression and pushing the boundaries of gender and occasion-appropriate dressing. He's no stranger to raising eyebrows – his early proposition of frilly shorts for men in 2013 earned a "stupidest outfit" title from the Daily Mail.

But Anderson seems to be having the last laugh. Inspired by the daring outfits he witnessed at Primavera Sound, a music festival in Barcelona, he celebrates the experimentation happening in both men's and women's fashion. "It's not just about the luxury brands," he declares, "It's about codes, identities, archetypes."

The influence of Primavera is evident in V-neck sweaters trimmed with silicon lace, but some pieces defy easy explanation. Think deflated satin pouches clinging to topcoats, or gigantic cardigans knitted in a 3D waffle texture. The runway was a feast for the eyes.

Humor peeks through in the Moccasin bag, a playful take on the penny loafer. Classic leather biker jackets, denim vests, and bomber jackets with curved hems complete the picture, the latter bringing elbow pasta to mind.

A surprise collaboration with Guinness adds a touch of whimsy. Elaborate pearl embroidery adorns sweaters and sweatshirts, some featuring a smiling moon face from a vintage Guinness ad. This capsule collection arrives in November, promising to be a conversation starter – you might even score a free pint for your sartorial boldness!
