Marimekko Fall Winter 2024-25 Tokyo Fashion Show

Marimekko unveiled its Fall Winter 2024-2025 Collection on March 15, 2024, at the Tokyo National Museum, Honkan, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its iconic print "Unikko" and mark its debut at Tokyo Fashion Week. The renowned Finnish design house showcased a collection brimming with joy, featuring basic and practical pieces like shirts, dresses, and denim adorned with Marimekko's rich and bold patterns.

The show kicked off with lively music performed live by a DJ as the runway came to life with pieces featuring the celebrated "Unikko" print. The interpretation of "Unikko" was diverse, ranging from three-dimensional floral motifs adorning skirts to oversized knits featuring enlarged flowers and puff jackets printed with small floral patterns.

Silhouettes throughout the collection remained minimalist and practical, including sleeveless mini dresses, collarless blouses, and straight-cut denim. Despite the minimalistic approach, there was an absence of constraint, with the bold use of patterns imbuing workwear with an innocent and playful mood. Particularly striking was the look featuring a heavyweight jersey dress adorned with the "Unikko" print, epitomizing individuality while remaining timeless.

Geometric patterns resembling diagonally arranged circles also caught the eye. The circular motifs, distorted by multiple vertical pleats adorning the neckline, created a unique visual effect, appearing distorted from different angles. As the models walked, the patterns swayed, creating a visual illusion reminiscent of trompe-l'oeil art.

The color palette predominantly featured white and black as the base, interspersed with autumnal hues such as burgundy, beige, and muted pale blue. The subdued palette harmoniously blended with the traditional and classical ambiance of the Honkan venue.

Lastly, attention was drawn to the bags accessorizing the collection. This season, leather bags featuring the "Unikko" motif in three-dimensional designs were showcased in square-shaped pochettes and mini baguette styles, adding a finishing touch to the ensemble.
