Philipp Plein Resort 2025 collection fashion show in Cannes (May 25, 2024).

Philipp Plein ditched the usual runway chaos for a star-studded soiree at his Cannes villa, showcasing a dazzling Resort 2025 collection that defied sporty trends with a focus on glamorous evening wear.

The annual event, held just as the Cannes Film Festival wraps up, has become a tradition for Plein. "It's about intimacy," the designer explained on a virtual walkthrough, his enthusiasm echoing through the screen. "Here, clients get a chance to truly connect, not get lost in the crowd."

While an afternoon thunderstorm forced a last-minute delay, Plein took it in stride. "That's life!" he laughed, guiding viewers through his transformed home – the runway itself. Racing flags, a nod to the Monaco Grand Prix happening nearby, snaked through the pool area past a vintage Mustang (a not-so-subtle dig at modern car design).

The theme of speed translated into a playful "Grease" vibe. Hairspray-heavy styles and classic tunes like "Summer Nights" set the mood, with a touch of Plein's signature bad-boy edge channeled through "Cry-Baby" references.

The focus, however, was undeniably on the clothes. Plein zoomed in on breathtaking crystal-encrusted dresses, one a fiery mini taking a week to handcraft and retailing for a cool $35,000. Silk gowns adorned with flames and dresses shimmering with cascading chains completed the glamorous lineup.

"This is a chance to showcase the most special pieces," Plein explained, highlighting his shift towards womenswear-only Resort collections. "The market is saturated with sporty looks," he said, "but women are craving glamour again." And with this collection, Plein delivers it in spades.
