Prada Fall Winter 2023-24 Fashion Show

The Prada Fall Winter 2023-2024 fashion show was a collaboration between Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. The designers wanted to create a collection that was inspired by uniform dressing with a couture sensibility. The idea was to value simple garments and everyday heroes like nurses and military personnel. The designers also wanted to create clothes that people would want to wear and keep wearing in a time of digital sensory overload.

The collection featured stellar, item-driven pieces with nods to “uniforms of people that care, caring was important,” according to Simons. The designers played with origami-like cutout flowers, 3D buds and stems, and fluttering petals on white mini, pencil, and circle skirts. The looks were topped with slouchy, crewneck sweaters and paired with pointy ballet flats decorated with folded bows. Simons called it “daily couture,” blurring the line between everyday wear and a wedding day.

The collection also featured high-waisted, skinny, and precision-cut trousers with creases in front and slits inside the ankles, worn over a pointy shoe. They were paired with military shirts and color combos of pink pants and yellow sweater or salmon pants and pale green sweater.

There were several military shirtdresses and nurse-white shirtdresses cut close to the body with epaulet, flap pocket or logo details and fishtail trains. Pointy collars buttoned into jackets or cardigans carried over from the men’s collection, as did the outerwear, which evolved architecturally from charming military-styled wool short capes to boxy blazers with spongy, shiny surfaces.

The now ubiquitous down jacket was cropped and shrunken to ladylike perfection over a pencil skirt, and there was a white puffer micro miniskirt for the Aspen set. Meanwhile, the humble Army green jacket and navy toggle coat became couture-like, tapered to the knee with sculpted cocoon backs.
