The Vivienne Westwood Bridal Spring 2026 show, held during Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week 2025, was more than just a runway presentation—it was a powerful statement on heritage, reinvention, and the enduring spirit of fashion as provocation. Staged in the historic Claustro of the University of Barcelona, the setting underscored the collection’s rich dialogue between history and subversion, elegance and rebellion.
Creative director Andreas Kronthaler, who has helmed the house since the passing of Dame Vivienne Westwood in 2022, continues to channel her punk ethos while breathing new life into the brand’s bridal language. For this special occasion—Barcelona Bridal Night—Kronthaler delivered a show that challenged expectations. From featuring seasoned models like Lorena Durán, Guiomar Alfaro, and the iconic Simonetta Gianfelici, to closing the show himself in a wedding dress, Kronthaler reminded the audience that Westwood's legacy is not only about clothes, but about attitude, inclusivity, and fearless self-expression.
The Spring 2026 collection is a tapestry of contrasts, merging historical references with contemporary tailoring. It draws from the brand’s own archives and beyond—revisiting their signature rose prints inspired by 18th-century botanist Pierre-Joseph Redouté, layered subtly over soft tulles and delicate chiffons. A nod to the show’s venue came through with the incorporation of orange blossom motifs, symbolizing purity and echoing the surrounding architecture’s poetic restraint.
Fabric choices played a crucial role in evoking a sense of lived-in beauty: Italian duchesse satins in faded pinks, washed georgette, fine cotton, crisp linen, and intricate lace came together in silhouettes that felt both theatrical and worn with ease. Corsetry—a hallmark of the house—was reimagined through the juxtaposition of rigid masculine tailoring, creating pieces that moved fluidly between strength and vulnerability.
Perhaps the most memorable moment came when Gianfelici appeared in the “Madame de Pompadour” gown—a white reinterpretation of a design inspired by François Boucher’s 1756 painting. According to Kronthaler, it was Vivienne’s favorite dress, and its revival in bridal white served as a quiet homage wrapped in romance and subversion.
