Anna Sui is forecasting a change in fashion, and her Resort 2025 collection, titled "Romanticism," is all about embracing a new era of youthful femininity.

Sui cites the positive reception of Chemena Kamali's debut Chloé collection and the return of bohemian style as inspiration for this shift towards a more romantic aesthetic.

Gone is "quiet luxury," replaced by a playful abundance of ruffles, lace, peplums, and prairie dresses. Think easy, wearable pieces with a touch of nostalgia, like a sweet white lace party dress reminiscent of a 90s Courtney Love look, or a charming Chanel-esque skirt suit with a striped pajama shirt.

A recent trip to Italy fueled the collection's visual direction. Inspired by the San Domenico Museum's pre-Raphaelite art exhibition, Sui incorporated tapestry motifs, "Rosetti" and "Sleeping Beauty" floral prints, and flowy dresses that evoke Italian goddesses and nymphs.

Balancing the romantic theme, Sui grounded the collection with elements of youthful cool. Light-wash denim embellished with butterflies (along with a matching reissue of her collaborative John Fluevog boots from Spring 1993) and a denim corset top paired with a tweedy kilt add an edge to the whimsical layers.

Playful polka dots, another current obsession for Sui, appear throughout the collection, adding to the lighthearted feel in prints, satin devoré, velvet, and dotted Swiss fabrics.
